Housebarn History

The Seitaniemi housebarn, located in Waasa Township, is an extremely rare and important cultural resource built by Alex Seitaniemi between 1907-1913. There are only three remaining housebarns in the United States built by someone of Finnish ancestry. This structure exhibits the expert workmanship evident in other Finnish log buildings, with dovetailed corners and walls that are extremely light and smooth.
